Breaking news from the Cypress Times:
UPDATE: Story is now 100% confirmed by second source within the Laredo Police Department
The bloodbath continues along our southern border and now word is coming in that Los Zetas, the highly trained killers formerly with the Gulf Cartel, have crossed into the United States and taken over at least two ranches in the Laredo, Texas area. I am receiving word that the owners of the ranches have evacuated without being harmed. As of this hour I cannot confirm 100% on the situation (I am at around 90%) - though the source is law enforcement in the area.
Founder of the San Diego Minutemen Jeff Schwilk tipped me off to this story and passes along the following information on the location. The ranches are said to be "near Mines Rd. and Minerales Annex Rd about 10 miles NW of I-35".
Update - Statement from Mr. Schwilk)
I can personally vouch that this info came in late last night from a reliable police source inside the Laredo PD. There is currently a standoff between the unknown size Zeta forces and U.S. Border Patrol and local law enforcement on two ranches on our side of the Rio Grande. The source tells us he considers this an "act of war" and that the military is needed on the border now!
Whether it is lone members or squads is not certain.
Anonymous sources in law enforcement in the Laredo area tonight have passed on word that US law enforcement agencies are in the area and are weighing their options regarding the ranches. The media has been silent on this incident and some law enforcement in the area says that they are furious that the media is not reporting the whole story of the continued violence along the border. Their frustrations are understandable because keeping the truth suppressed continues to hamper law enforcement from receiving the true support they need along the border.
The ranch assaults come on the heels of attacks in Nuevo Laredo that shut the city down as a gun-battle raged in the streets. Los Zetas blocked off intersections with vehicles and used fragmentation grenades to attack Mexican law enforcement. In the end 12 were killed and 21 injured in the assaults. Citizens in the area were told to stay in their homes and bullets whizzed all around.

The U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo had posted warnings on its website hours before the gunfire was reported by Texas citizens, “We have received credible reports of widespread violence occurring now between narcotics-trafficking organizations and the Mexican army in Nuevo Laredo.”
The U.S. Consulate went on to say, “The consulate confirmed that fragmentation grenades were used in the attacks and that suspected drug-gang members had blocked several roads, adding that it advised ‘all U.S. citizens in Nuevo Laredo to remain indoors until the security situation improves.’”
US Citizens in Laredo called 911 after hearing gunfire and explosions just across the border. Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza deflected the concerns of citizens with what I see as utter contempt. He said there was no spillover violence onto the US side and "We were getting reports from people who live on the river's edge that they could hear gunfire and explosions from the Mexico side," Baeza said, "We didn't have any incidents on the American side. It's hard for people to understand who don't live here ... They're not Vikings, they're not going to invade us, it doesn't work that way."
This was said just a day before the reported breaking news on the ranches being taken above.
Violence has been on the rise along the border. In April 2010 a Border Patrol agent in Laredo shot and killed an lllegal alien drug smuggler near the Rio Grande
The Los Zetas are highly trained killers initially trained by United States Special Operations forces to combat the drug cartes within Mexico. As the drug war heated up the Zetas saw more money in working for the cartels and joined up with the Gulf Cartel.
In March, 2010 there was a fracture between the Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel when a Zetas leader was said to have been assassinated by the Gulf Cartel. They demanded that the killer be turned over to them. When the Gulf Cartel refused the Zetas captured 16 Gulf Cartel members.
Since March Los Zetas abandoned their stronghold in Reynosa and moved to Nuevo Laredo, just across from the border with Laredo, Texas. There are estimated to be over 1,000 Zeta members there.
First of all, this IS an act of war. The situation on the border is totally out of control. Mexico is a nation that has become ungovernable due to massive corruption, which has allowed the drug cartells to flourish. These are are well trained, well funded, terrorists. They pose as big, or possibly a bigger threat to the United States, than al Qaeda:
Los Zetas is a criminal organization in Mexico dedicated mostly to international illegal drug trade and other organized crime activities. This drug cartel was founded by an elite force of assassins from Mexican Army deserters and is now integrated by corrupt ex-federal, state, and local police officers, as well as ex-Kaibiles from Guatemala.
This group of highly trained gunmen was first hired as a private mercenary army for Mexico's Gulf Cartel. Since the arrest of the Gulf Cartel's leader, Osiel Cárdenas Guillen, as well as other events, the two entities became a combined trafficking force, with the Zetas taking a more active leadership role in drug trafficking. Since February 2010 Los Zetas have gone independent and became enemies of its former employer/partner, the Gulf Cartel.
Los Zetas are led by Heriberto "El Lazca" Lazcano and are considered by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as probably being the most violent paramilitary enforcement group in Mexico, capturing tourists from the U.S and holding them for ransom. Los Zetas have expanded their operations to Italy with the 'Ndrangheta.

This is all quite disturbing. Back in May we reported there were Mexican pirates terrorizing boaters on Falcon Lake, about an hour south of Laredo, which you can read all about here. We suspected this would all escalate, and it has.
The federal government is to blame here. The Obama regime refuses to enforce our laws against illegal immigration, and refuses to secure the border with Mexico. That alone is bad enough, but playing the worst kind of racial politics, the Obama regime has also taken the state of Arizona court to stop them from defending themselves against their own invasion from Mexican terrorists, as well as hundreds of thousands of illegals. It's been very bloody in Arizona, but Obama and the Marxist-democrat party, aided by their media partners, as well as some Republicans, are actively working against the American people and their safety.
The Marxist-democrats and their media partners see illegals as potential new voters, since they have run all of the old ones off with their insane policies, and the Republicans who are enabling this treacherous behavior are just plain stupid.
This is a very dangerous situation, and because of politics, Barack Obama refuses to do his constitutional duty and defend this nation from a foreign enemy. This is bad enough, but by actively trying to stop the states from doing the job he refuses to do, and protect their citizens, borders on treason.
We need to send troops to the border right now. I don't mean a few hundred, or a few thousand. We need to activate and send everyone we can muster. We are being envaded by a foreign nation! American citizens are being terrorized and slaughtered. This is war.
When al Qaeda flew planes into buildings on 9/11 we invaded two countries and installed new governments, because Afganistan and Iraq were aiding and funding terrorists. I'm not saying we invade Mexico .... yet .... but the country actively aids anyone who wishes to come to our country illegally, and Mexico's President Calderon had the nerve to stand in before OUR Congress and bash OUR nation, as well as the state of Arizona, for wanting to protect themselves from HIS citizens. That Barack Obama and the entire Marxist-democrat party applauded his efforts, tells you all you need to know.
A nation that doesn't defend it's borders from terrorists and illegal invaders simply cannot survive.
The long term fix is obvious: Defeat each and every Marxist-democrat at every level of government, and never allow another one to come to power. Same goes for "progressive" Republicans. This is why November is so damned important. We must take Congress back, and take it back big. Then we must hold Obama's feet to the fire. He needs to be either forced to do his job, or face dire consequenses.
For now, we hope Governor Perry will call up the Texas National Guard, and put em all on the border, armed, and with orders to do whatever it takes to stop these violent terrorists.
UPDATED:
There have been numerous questions regarding the validity of these claims. We plan on pursuing this more ourselves, but as it's late, here is what we know at this point:
This from Pat Dollard:
Webb County Sheriff’s and they would not confirm or deny that any ranches had been seized. They pleaded agnosticism.
I just spoke to Kimberly Dvorak who I know and has been a source on ACORN and other stories for Breitbart’s sites. Kimberly wrote this article on the situation this morning:
http://is.gd/dEXq0
Kimberly is adamantly standing by her story, and gave me the name of one of her three sources inside both the Laredo Police and Webb County Sheriff’s Departments.
She says two of those sources not only confirmed the story of the ranches being seized, but elaborated in great detail on what was happening.
She also has other sources on the ground, non-law enforcement. She is mid-stream in developing and further reporting the whole story, and has reason to believe that law enforcement is in mid-operation on the ranches, and do not want that operation interrupted with publicity before they are finished.
Given the shootout that occurred on the 22nd, it would also make some sense that the ranches were simply occupied as safe havens by retreating Zeta gunman.
Kimberly has a record as a credible journalist, with established sources inside the Mexican cartels themselves.
We do know there was a massive gun battle involving Los Zeta on the Mexican side of the border, as reported here.
It it totally plausible that Los Zetas sought refuge across the border here in Texas, and seized a ranch house, or two, for cover.
Digger at Digger's Realm, who originally filed the story with the Cypress Times, has his own thoughts on the media blackout:
Why The Los Zetas Ranch Story Matters - Confirmation And Why A Media Blackout?
You can read more here.
KOLD A CBS affiliate in Arizona reports:
"Los Zetas" Draw Concern Of U.S. Government
The U.S. Justice Department is warning local police in Arizona and California a group of rogue Mexican military commandos may be headed this way. They're thought to be setting up new drug smuggling routes and it could bring new violence to the border area.
They are elite "special forces" of the Mexican military trained in the U.S. at the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia and sent to "wipe out" one of the most powerful Mexican drug cartels.

This is what Los Zetas are capable of:
In Tamaulipas, on May 23rd, members of Los Zetas hijacked the natural gas field Gigante Uno in the Burgos basin, holding five PEMEX workers as hostages to prevent authorities from coming in. The group was siphoning fuel for an entire month before the Mexican army decided to enter and engage with the gunmen on June 24th. PEMEX did not disclose any information about the hijacking until media pressure drew national and international attention to the incident.
In a separate development on June 26th, the army killed five members of Los Zetas who had kidnapped seven workers from PEMEX in the Arcos field in the municipality of Mier (Burgos basin). The armed group had been forcing the workers to siphon off fuel for them, until they were faced with the army patrol.
Fuel theft provides a quick source of income for criminal organizations and also represents a less risky activity than drug trafficking. Such incidents are occurring with increasing frequency in this region (according to PEMEX, the losses from fuel theft and the kidnapping of workers in the Burgos basin region are estimated to be MX$80million (US$629 thousand) per month). The hijacking of energy infrastructure, however, is something new and should raise concerns regarding the safety of strategic energy infrastructure.

They were also able to assassinate a Mexican gubernatorial candidte, which you can read about here.
It's also being reported that Los Zetas:
Threatened to place land mines and roadside bombs on the U.S. side of the border later, this fall when he says he expects major enemy activity. He further indicated that he is outfitting his men with armor-vests and kevlar helmets.

Then there is this:
American officials told a Houston newspaper that the Zetas drug cartel may have been involved in a plot to blow up Falcon Dam.
The dam is located on the Rio Grande near the Zapata and Starr County lines.
Law enforcement officials and emergency management officials told the Houston Chronicle that authorities secretly scrambled to prevent the rumored plot.
The Houston Chronicle reported that the Zetas intended to unleash billions of gallons of water to flood the Rio Grande Valley and northern Tamaulipas.

Here's where we are at on this story. We now consider it developing and will update when more information is available.
