John Cornyn Makes His Choice, And It's A Bad One

You know, I generally like, and support Senator John Cornyn. He has been a great Senator, and was outstanding as Attorney General of Texas. So it pains me to have to write this entry.

In fact, as part of my continuing series on the time for choosing in the Republican party, I had something completely different planned for this spot.

But Senator Cornyn has made a choice that must be addressed.

Cornyn is the NRSC chair. A powerful position where he decides who the GOP will and won't support as senatorial candidates. While I was happy to see him in this position, I must say I am completely disappointed in the results.

Senator Cornyn has announced that he will support Senator Arlen Spector in his bid for re-election over Pat Toomey in the Republican primary.

In a letter to Pennsylvania Republicans Cornyn said this:

"My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate,"

"I can't do that without Arlen Specter. With him as our nominee, I can target our campaign resources toward beating Democrats and growing the Senate Republican Conference."

The implications of his statement are pretty clear. If The folks in the Keystone State want a Republican in the Senate, they better stay on board with Specter.

One has to ask Senator Cornyn if that means, should Pat Toomey defeat Senator Specter in the primary, he can expect no support from the national party?

As I have discussed at length, the RINOs in our party are destroying it. Arlen Specter, along with John McCain, Susan Collins, and Olympia Snowe are a big problem. They rarely vote with the Republican party on serious issues.

Instead, they look to forge alliances that normally go against solid conservative principals, as well the general public's wishes.

Remember, it was Specter, Collins, and Snowe who gave us the huge porkulus bill, or as it's better known: The Generational Theft Act Of 2009. These three stood between a solid victory for the American people, and a huge defeat for Obama's insane agenda, and passage of the bill. They stood with Obama, and against the people.

I am seriously doubting that the Republican party has a clue what it will take to return to greatness. They have forgotten that it was conservatism, true Ronald Reagan type conservatism, that made the GOP a national powerhouse!

Before Reagan, the GOP was a footnote. The democrats had a 40 year stranglehold on Congress. Reagan started a revolution that lasted until the Republicans lost their way, and drifted back towards moderatism and mediocrity. The country club blue bloods, the RINOs, have wrested control of the party from the conservatives, and have made the party irrelevant.

I for one, am not amused. The Republicans are all that stand between us, and a totalitarian communist government run by the democrats. I want the Republicans to be strong, to win, and to be the party of Ronald Reagan!

Ain't gonna happen with people like Arlen Specter in the party.

If you agree, get in touch with Senator Cornyn. Be respectful, but make sure he understands that this is one of the biggest mistakes he has ever made. Cornyn is a good man, but even good men do the wrong things from time to time.

It is a time for choosing, and it seems we need to help Senator Cornyn make the proper choice. Not just for the party, but for America.
