And now, I've noticed a pattern with our opponent, and maybe you have, too. We've all heard his dramatic speeches before devoted followers, and there is much to like and admire about our opponent.
But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or even a reform, not even in the State Senate.
This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting and never use the word "victory," except when he's talking about his own campaign.
But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot...
When that happens, what exactly is our opponent's plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish after he's done turning back the waters and healing the planet?
The answer -- the answer is to make government bigger, and take more of your money, and give you more orders from Washington, and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world.
As you no doubt have heard, our esteemed President, Barack Obama, in all of his beta male gloriousness announced this week:
I was down there a month ago, before most of these talkin’ heads were even paying attention to the gulf. A month ago I was meeting with fishermen down there, standin’ in the rain talking about what a potential crisis this could be. and I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.
Of course, this impressed absolutely no one, and lost all of it’s manly- manliness, when Obama announced on Monday that he was gonna convene a panel of experts in order to figure out whose ass to kick!
On the other hand, Sarah Palin knows exactly whose ass to kick, does so in spectacular fashion:
Less Talkin’, More Kickin’
50 days in, and we’ve just learned another shocking revelation concerning the Obama administration’s response to the Gulf oil spill. In an interview aired this morning, President Obama admitted that he hasn’t met with or spoken directly to BP’s CEO Tony Hayward. His reasoning: "Because my experience is, when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he’s gonna say all the right things to me. I’m not interested in words. I’m interested in actions."
First, to the "informed and enlightened" mainstream media: in all the discussions you’ve had with the White House about the spill, did it not occur to you before today to ask how the CEO-to-CEO level discussions were progressing to remedy this tragedy? You never cease to amaze. (Kind of reminds us of the months on end when you never bothered to ask if the President was meeting with General McChrystal to talk about our strategy in Afghanistan.)
This is a twofer. She gets to kick both Obama and the media square in the ass! Sadly, both are lost causes, and just need to go away. It’s simply incredible that Obama hasn’t spoken, not even once, to BP’s CEO. How the hell do you not call up Tony Hayward and at least say something? Even better, as Allahpundit over at Hot Air points out, Obama can’t even give a real explanation why he hasn’t spoken to Hayward!
This truly is a guy who shouldn’t have a job that is more complicated than asking "would you like some fries with that?"
Second, to fellow baffled Americans: this revelation is further proof that it bodes well to have some sort of executive experience before occupying the Oval Office (as if the painfully slow response to the oil spill, confusion of duties, finger-pointing, lack of preparedness, and inability to grant local government simple requests weren’t proof enough). The current administration may be unaware that it’s the President’s duty, meeting on a CEO-to-CEO level with Hayward, to verify what BP reports. In an interview a few weeks ago with Greta Van Susteren, I noted that based on my experience working with oil execs as an oil regulator and then as a Governor, you must verify what the oil companies claim – because their perception of circumstances and situations dealing with public resources and public trust is not necessarily shared by those who own America’s public resources and trust. I was about run out of town in Alaska for what critics decried at the time as my "playing hardball with Big Oil," and those same adversaries (both shortsighted Repubs and Dems) continue to this day to try to discredit my administration’s efforts in holding Big Oil accountable to operate ethically and responsibly.
As Ronald Reagan would say: "trust, but verify." Sarah learned this lesson early on when dealing with Big Oil.
Mr. President: with all due respect, you have to get involved, sir. The priorities and timeline of an oil company are not the same as the public’s. You cannot outsource the cleanup and the responsibility and the trust to BP and expect that the legitimate interests of Americans adversely affected by this spill will somehow be met.
White House: have you read this morning’s Washington Post? Not to pile it on BP, but there’s an extensive report chronicling the company’s troubling history:
"BP has had more high-profile accidents than any other company in recent years. And now, with the disaster in the gulf, independent experts say the pervasiveness of the company’s problems, in multiple locales and different types of facilities, is striking.
‘They are a recurring environmental criminal and they do not follow U.S. health safety and environmental policy,’ said Jeanne Pascal, a former EPA lawyer who led its BP investigations."
And yet just 10 days prior to the explosion, the Obama administration’s regulators gave the oil rig a pass, and last year the Obama administration granted BP a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) exemption for its drilling operation.
But ... but ... but, I thought it was all Bush’s fault!!
These decisions and the resulting spill have shaken the public’s confidence in the ability to safely drill. Unless government appropriately regulates oil developments and holds oil executives accountable, the public will not trust them to drill, baby, drill. And we must! Or we will be even more beholden to, and controlled by, dangerous foreign regimes that supply much of our energy. This has been a constant refrain from me. As Governor of Alaska, I did everything in my power to hold oil companies accountable in order to prove to the federal government and to the nation that Alaska could be trusted to further develop energy rich land like ANWR and NPR-A. I hired conscientious Democrats and Republicans (because this sure shouldn’t be a partisan issue) to provide me with the best advice on how we could deal with what was a corrupt system of some lawmakers and administrators who were hesitant to play hardball with some in the oil field business. (Remember the Alaska lawmakers, public decision-makers, and business executives who ended up going to jail as a result of the FBI’s investigations of oily corruption.)
As the aforementioned article notes, BP’s operation in Alaska would hurt our state and waste public resources if allowed to continue. That’s why my administration created the Petroleum Systems Integrity Office (PSIO) when we saw proof of improper maintenance of oil infrastructure in our state. We had to verify. And that’s why we instituted new oversight and held BP and other oil companies financially accountable for poor maintenance practices. We knew we could partner with them to develop resources without pussyfooting around with them. As a CEO, it was my job to look out for the interests of Alaskans with the same intensity and action as the oil company CEOs looked out for the interests of their shareholders.
I learned firsthand the way these companies operate when I served as chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC). I ended up resigning in protest because my bosses (the Governor and his chief of staff at the time) wouldn’t support efforts to clean up the corruption involving improper conflicts of interest with energy companies that the state was supposed to be watching. (I wrote about this valuable learning experience in my book, "Going Rogue".) I felt guilty taking home a big paycheck while being reduced to sitting on my thumbs – essentially rendered ineffective as a supervisor of a regulatory agency in charge of nearly 20% of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.
Sarah talks about her experience both as Alaska’s chief energy and environmental regulator and as Governor in dealing with Big Oil in her book. My experience (though, granted, I got the message loud and clear during the campaign that my executive experience managing the fastest growing community in the state, and then running the largest state in the union, was nothing compared to the experiences of a community organizer) showed me how government officials and oil execs could scratch each others’ backs to the detriment of the public, and it made me ill. I ran for Governor to fight such practices. So, as a former chief executive, I humbly offer this advice to the President: you must verify. That means you must meet with Hayward. Demand answers.
In the interview today, the President said: "I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar. We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick."
Please, sir, for the sake of the Gulf residents, reach out to experts who have experience holding oil companies accountable. I suggested a few weeks ago that you start with Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources, led by Commissioner Tom Irwin. Having worked with Tom and his DNR and AGIA team led by Marty Rutherford, I can vouch for their integrity and expertise in dealing with Big Oil and overseeing its developments. We’ve all lived and worked through the Exxon-Valdez spill. They can help you. Give them a call. Or, what the heck, give me a call.
And, finally, Mr. President, please do not punish the American public with any new energy tax in response to this tragedy. Just because BP and federal regulators screwed up that doesn’t mean the rest of us should get punished with higher taxes at the pump and attached to everything petroleum products touch.

I sit here and wonder where the GOP establishment show ponies, like Mitt Romney are in all of this. All of the "good old boys" have been conspicuous by their absence.
I came across this wonderfully produced video several years back. Wyatt McIntyre, the creator, says it was his first attempt at editing. All I can say is he captured the very essence of the events surrounding the greatest amphibious assault in human history, and the turning point of WWII. The beginning of the end.
The speech, delivered as only Ronald Reagan could, was given on June 6, 1984, the 40th anniversary of the Normandy invasion. President Reagan was standing at Point du Hoc with the surviving Rangers who defied certain death and scaled those cliffs, defeating the Germans.
It's rather bittersweet, that as we remember this great triumph of good over evil, that we must also remember that we lost Ronald Reagan on June 5, 2004. Listening to this great speech, we remember why he is so missed.
There will no doubt be any number of WWII flicks on television honoring those who fought on this day in history, but if you don't watch any other movie, watch Darryl F. Zanuck's masterpiece, The Longest Day. This is a big movie, told from both the Allied and German point of view. It has an all star cast, and is one of the best WWII movies ever made.
As you go through your day, remember these great heroes who fought on the beaches of Normandy. Many died so that we remain free today. It's easy to sit back and take it all for granted, but on this day, the 6th of June, 1944, the entire world was in peril, and victory was still a long way away, and not at all certain. We own these men everything. We must never let their memory fade.
This really doesn't have anything to do with D-Day, but it is so moving, nonetheless. Everyone knows the Star Spangled Banner, but how many know the part we sing is only the first of four verses?
This Marine knew, and simply stunned the audience at a recent Tea Party event:

In a simply amazing show of outstanding leadership, Mitt Romney really put it out there and endorsed Susana Martinez for Governor of New Mexico. Of course, this "profile in courage" did this on Wednesday June 2.
The Republican primary was Tuesday June 1. Way to really lay it on the line Mitt!

While I’m sure soon to be Governor Martinez is appreciative of Romney’s support, I find it laughable, but typical of Mitt, and his brand of milquetoast, squishy, never take a stand, blow with the wind, establishment Republican. Not a drop of leadership in this guy’s veins.
This was a five-way race, I guess it was just too much to ask for Romney to stick his neck out and actually choose. Of course, now that she is the nominee, it’s a no-brainer. It’s not like good old Mitt was going to endorse the democrat, right.
As a reminder, Sarah Palin endorsed Susana, back in May, as part of an entire group of outstanding, conservative women, who are ready to lead the nation. Stacy Drake wrote a great piece about Martinez, and her outstanding career as a corruption buster. You can read more here.
Martinez is the first Republican Hispanic woman nominee for Governor, and her running mate will be John Sanchez, making this the first all Hispanic ticket.
Susana Martinez Wins GOP Primary Ticket in New Mexico Gov. Race
Republican voters in the state elected Susana Martinez, the district attorney from Dona Ana County, to be the GOP nominee to run against Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Martinez defeated former state Republican chairman Allen Weh, as well as state Rep. Janice Arnold Jones, public-relations company owner Doug Turner and Pete Domenici Jr., son of the former U.S. senator.
Not only are the Republicans running a woman for candidate. The top of the ticket will be two Hispanics.
Martinez's running mate will be Albuquerque businessmen John Sanchez, a former state legislator from Albuquerque who was the Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2002. Sanchez edged out state Sen. Kent Cravens of Albuquerque and former state Rep. Brian Moore in the lieutenant governor primary. Denish's running mate is former party chairman Brian Colon.
Lonna Atkeson, a political-science professor at The University of New Mexico, said the Denish-Martinez match-up "will be a very interesting race because you'd have two women of very different backgrounds. ...They offer very different perspectives about the future."
Atkeson predicted Martinez will focus on corruption and law-and-order themes while Denish will focus on jobs and the economy. "It's going to force Denish to talk about issues she (Martinez) wants to talk about, including immigration. I've always thought of us as a state that ignores immigration."

Asked whether having a Hispanic gubernatorial ticket will help Republicans make inroads into the Hispanic vote, Sanderoff said in an interview Tuesday, "It sure can't hurt." He said having a woman and a Hispanic at the top of the ticket creates "energy" and positive "symbolism" for the GOP. "Sometimes the Republican ticket is seen as not being that diverse," he said.

Martinez's campaign was boosted in recent weeks with the endorsement of former Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who included Martinez as one of her "Mama Grizzlies" -- conservative female candidates around the country.
We are excited for Susana Martinez, and excited for New Mexico. Susana is the real deal, and a tough reformer, which is why Sarah endorsed her. Governor Martinez will only make New Mexico, and the United States stronger.
As for Romney, well ... Clint Eastwood, as "Dirty Harry" in Magnum Force, said it best: "A man’s got to know his limitations."
This is why we like Carly Fiorina, and why Sarah Palin endorsed her. It's also why she will be the next Senator from California. People want no nonsense answers to our problems, and are sick of politically correct panderers who think they must say whatever they think so-called "moderates" and "independents" want to hear in order to get elected. Sarah Palin said it best, just as the great Ronald Reagan before her. You stand up for your conservative values, and never waver. You don't "move to the center" (whatever the hell that means) you get the "center" to move to you. Conservatism works every time it's tried.
Carly is a true conservative leader, and unafraid to take the conservative stand. Carly is unabashedly prolife, pro gun, pro business, and pro science and common sense vs flat earth thinking, and "global warming" hoaxing. And she is doing this is in California. That takes conviction.
This is why Carly has taken a commanding lead in the last four polls, and why come November, we'll be saying: "Hello Senator Fiorina," and "Goodbye Senator Don't Call Me Ma'am"
No one credible disputes Sarah Palin’s expertise on energy. This woman knows what she is talking about here. The radical left has a diabolical scheme, but it has little to do with a clean environment, and a lot to do with destroying America, and lining it’s pockets in the process.
Extreme Enviros: Drill, Baby, Drill in ANWR – Now Do You Get It?
This is a message to extreme "environmentalists" who hypocritically protest domestic energy production offshore and onshore. There is nothing "clean and green" about your efforts. Look, here’s the deal: when you lock up our land, you outsource jobs and opportunity away from America and into foreign countries that are making us beholden to them. Some of these countries don’t like America. Some of these countries don’t care for planet earth like we do – as evidenced by our stricter environmental standards.
With your nonsensical efforts to lock up safer drilling areas, all you’re doing is outsourcing energy development, which makes us more controlled by foreign countries, less safe, and less prosperous on a dirtier planet. Your hypocrisy is showing. You’re not preventing environmental hazards; you’re outsourcing them and making drilling more dangerous.
Extreme deep water drilling is not the preferred choice to meet our country’s energy needs, but your protests and lawsuits and lies about onshore and shallow water drilling have locked up safer areas. It’s catching up with you. The tragic, unprecedented deep water Gulf oil spill proves it.
We need permission to drill in safer areas, including the uninhabited arctic land of ANWR. It takes just a tiny footprint – equivalent to the size of LA’s airport – to tap America’s rich and plentiful oil and gas up north. ANWR’s drilling footprint is like a postage stamp on a football field.
But it’s not just ANWR; it’s our Petroleum Reserve, too. As Governor Sean Parnell noted today in the Wall Street Journal:
"Federal agencies are also now blocking oil development in the National Petroleum Reserve—Alaska.
Although familiar with ANWR, most Americans are less likely to know about NPR-A and how vital it is to our energy security. Given recent developments, it’s time to elevate the position this area holds in our national discourse.
NPR-A, a 23 million acre stretch of Alaska’s North Slope, was set aside by President Warren Harding in 1923 for the specific purpose of supplying our country and military with oil and gas. Since 1976 it has been administered by the Department of the Interior, and since 1980 it has been theoretically open for development. The most recent estimates indicate that it holds 12 billion barrels of oil and 73 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
In addition to containing enormous hydrocarbons, NPR-A is very close to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which means that there would be relatively little additional infrastructure needed to bring this new oil to our domestic market.
But even here, progress has been stalled."
Radical environmentalists: you are damaging the planet with your efforts to lock up safer drilling areas. There’s nothing clean and green about your misguided, nonsensical radicalism, and Americans are on to you as we question your true motives.

For more than five years, the state of Alaska has worked closely with major energy companies, local communities and Alaska Native corporations and tribes on a balanced development plan. To back this project, these entities have formed a rare coalition and made significant compromises, often at the behest of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to clear regulatory hurdles for development on a site in NPR-A known as CD-5.
But this February the Corps reversed course and denied the issuance of a critical permit for CD-5. Specifically, the Corps denied ConocoPhillips's request to build a bridge over a river to accommodate a pipeline and vehicles that can access the company's existing production facilities at the nearby Alpine field. The Corps decreed that the bridge shouldn't be built and that the pipeline should proceed under water, a course of action that would significantly undermine the economics of the project while posing a greater risk to the environment.
Alaska stands ready to help move the nation closer to energy independence, and it's a shame that the federal government is standing in the way. The Corps's own regulations emphasize that state and local governments have primary responsibility for land-use decisions and that their views should be given due consideration. But not only has the Corps rejected a critical permit, it did so without consideration of our concerns—on the overly technical grounds that the state's comments were not made under my signature and that my oral comments to Corps officials were not in writing.
After years of cooperatively trying to move this critical NPR-A project forward, such a backhanded dismissal of a state's position is troubling enough. But what we really fear is that this is part of a much broader agenda at play (directed by the antidevelopment Environmental Protection Agency) to shut down increased domestic oil and gas production even in places like the NPR-A. As Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski stated in a recent address to our legislature, "For heaven's sakes, if we can't drill in the National Petroleum Reserve—an area specifically designated by Congress for oil and gas production—where can we drill?"
The state of Alaska is seeking to join an administrative appeal of this misguided federal decision. If we are not satisfied with the outcome of this proceeding, we will pursue other means, including suing the federal government to ensure that it abides by its own regulations and does not make arbitrary and capricious decisions at the expense of state sovereignty and wise energy policy.
America, particularly in Alaska, has vast reserves of onshore and offshore oil and gas. The crisis in the Gulf should not be used to implement a misguided strategy that shuts down the opportunities to develop these resources and that further endangers our nation's long-term energy security.
I for one am glad to see Sarah come out swinging here. The radical Marxist-progressives hijacked the so-called "green movement" decades ago, and are using it as nothing more than a vehicle to impose a communist style government both in America, and world wide. These people are evil, nothing more and nothing less.
There are several masters being served here by the Obama regime, and it’s disciples. First, there is the money, lots of money. The Obama regime, using the tenets of radical environmentalism, .which is based on a hoax, (global warming) to set up a cap and trade system that will see Obama, Al Gore, and many others rake in tens of trillions of dollars from people who are forced to purchase "carbon credits" through the Chicago Climate Exchange, which was created by Obama, and has among others, Al Gore, and elements of Goldman Sachs as partners. One thing we must also never forget, while Obama and his people are doing everything they can to shut down all energy production in America, last year, Barack Obama loaned Brazil $15 billion in order to drill off it’s own coast. How does that square with the Obama regime’s cries for a "cleaner planet"? Anyone really think Brazil would be more diligent than America on environmental safety?
The real story here is the fact that three days before Obama gave Brazil the $15 billion tax payer dollars, his real boss, former Nazi sympathizer George Soros, purchased controlling interest in Petrobas, the Brazilian oil giant that will be using this gift of our money. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out who stands to make an obscene amount of money if America is no longer producing oil.
Soros is one of the most evil men on the planet, and owns the Marxist-democrat party lock, stock and barrel. He funds hundreds of Marxist-democrat party organizations. It stands to reason they will help him add even more wealth to his bank account, since his groups are responsible for keeping the most corrupt President and the most corrupt political party in our nation’s history afloat.

So far, all we are seeing is massive corruption, and a cap and tax scheme that is so evil that Bernie Madoff would cry foul. All of this manipulation by the Obama regime, and the pushing of a proven hoax (global warming) is nothing more than a high end, Chicago Gangland Shakedown, on a global scale.
For their part, the radical Marxists will get to witness the complete and total destruction of America, as well as the greatest redistribution of wealth in history.
The real losers in all of this, are the poor misguided fools who actually care about the planet, and want to see it cared for responsibly. Absolutely nothing in Obama’s "green agenda" has to do with making the planet cleaner. The only green Obama and his fellow travelers care about is the kind of green that has dead presidents on the front.
Unfortunately, the people who may actually care about the planet, have been indoctrinated in radical environmentalism and Marxist ideology for a generation. They have been taught to be closed minded and to have complete hatred for anything and everything that doesn’t fit the narrative. This is quite tragic, because there are people, who aren’t radical Marxists, that have the knowledge and skill to not only satisfy America’s need for energy, clean, inexpensive energy, that fuels our entire economy, but have a genuine love for our planet, and will go out of their way to do it right. They just aren’t devout followers of Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky.
Sarah Palin is one of those people. She knows the oil and gas business as well as anyone out there. She worked to hold big oil accountable, and reform the system in Alaska. Sarah has first hand knowledge of what a disaster like the Gulf oil spill will do. As Governor, Sarah created an agency that was responsible for holding Big Oil responsible, and coming down hard when they weren’t. More importantly, she kept an eye on this commission, to make sure they did their job. It’s what a good CEO does.
It’s ridiculous and quite dangerous for us to be drilling for oil so far off shore. Drilling in mile deep water isn’t just asking for trouble, it’s begging for it. If we were in shallower water, closer to land, this problem could have been more easily gotten under control, but the extreme depths radical environmentalists, and greedy, corrupt politicians have forced upon America, are the culprit here.
Radical environmentalists loose heir mind when the talks turn to ANWR. Their media partners always aid them by running stories showing majestic eagles flying, polar bears looking all cuddly, and lush, green land. Now that may indeed represent some part of ANWR, but not where the oil is. Not where people want to drill.
ANWR is roughly the size of the state of South Carolina. As Sarah points out, the spot where the oil is, is about the size of the Los Angeles International Airport. If you're a Texan, think D-FW. International Airport. It truly is like comparing the size of a postage stamp, to the size of a football field.
Also, the spot where the oil and natural gas are, is not all that nice. In the winter, it’s frozen tundra, that is barely inhabitable, and in the summer the most endearing features are the black flies and mosquitoes the size of a small bird! If you look on the map, there are already energy producing fields very close to this area.
I remember when I was younger, the radical environmentalists lost their minds when planning for the Trans-Alaska pipeline was underway. The outrageous claims of devastation and destruction were just as over the top as what we see today.
Oh the caribou!
My goodness this was going to destroy the caribou. Now mind you, most Alaskan’s rely heavily on caribou and other game for their very survival. As Sarah puts it, "I eat, therefore I hunt." This is very much the way of life in Alaska. Alaskan’s aren’t going to destroy their food supply.
Long story short, as always, the environmental moonbats were wrong. It seems that the oil that comes through the pipeline is warm, even when the outside temps are well below zero. Caribou love the warmth. It also makes the caribou, and other game rather romantic. Instead of making the caribou extinct, these buggers multiplied like rabbits! So much for the wisdom of radical environmentalism.
Several things need to happen here. One, we need competent leadership, from people that actually have an understanding of how stuff works. We need someone who is honest, and incorruptible. That of course, would be Sarah Palin, and those like her.
We also must start investigating the massive lies and corruption that surround the so-called "green movement" as well as all of those involved with the Obama regime. Someone must have the guts to go after Obama, and all of the members of Crime, Inc. We also need someone with the guts to go after George Soros, and take this guy down. He is pure evil, and funds pure evil worldwide.
The Marxist-democrats like Obama love to shout from the rooftops how evil capitalism is, and how we need "social and economic justice" to "make things right", but under the shadow of darkness, these evil men work and scheme to find the best way to steal America, and the world, blind, making themselves rich beyond all imagination. In the end, all Obama and his fellow travelers really are, are just common criminals.

Bertelsmann admits Nazi past
German media giant Bertelsmann has admitted it lied about its Nazi past and that it made big profits during Adolf Hitler's reign in Germany using Jewish slave labour.
A commission set up by the firm found Bertelsmann rode the rise of the Nazi party to restructure itself from a religious and school book publisher to supply millions of anti-Semitic texts.
"Bertelsmann published a variety of papers and books that clearly had anti-Jewish bias," Independent Historical Commission (IHC) Chairman Saul Friedlaender, an Israeli historian, told a news conference.
The IHC found Bertelsmann had targeted the youth market with its "Exciting Stories" series and the "The Christmas Book of the Hitler Youth" annual which pushed its sales up 20 fold.
The IHC said the company's "legend" that it was a victim of the Nazis was a lie.
Faking it
The Nazis shut down the company in 1944, but probably because of war shortages rather and not because of subversive texts, it said.
"In 1945, the legend that C. Bertelsmann was closed down because of resistance to the Nazis smoothed the way for the occupation authorities promptly granting the firm a new licence to publish," the report said.
The Commission found that Bertelsmann made "indirect" use of Jewish slave labour in Latvia, and Lithuania but not at its German headquarters.
The then head of the company, Heinrich Mohn, also made donations to the SS, Hitler's special forces and concentration camp guards.
"True, he never joined the Nazi party, but his membership in the SS patrons' group signalled his readiness for a political arrangement," the report said.
The company had close ties to the Nazi regime, particularly the Propaganda Ministry, and printed 19 million books during World War II, making it the largest publisher for the German army.
The company immediately issued a statement apologising for its wartime activities and false corporate history.
"The values of Bertelsmann then are irreconcilable with the company today. The company is now a global player in the media industry," Tim Arnold, the corporate secretary of Bertelsmann told the BBC's Today programme.

Bertelsmann chairman Gunther Thielen said the company accepted the commission's findings.
"I would like to express our sincere regret for the inaccuracies the Commission has uncovered in our previous corporate history of the World War Two era as well as for the wartime activities that have been brought to light," he said in a statement.
Mr Thielen said all the material used for the 800-page report would be made publicly available.

The commission of four historians was set up in the fallout of the takeover after media reports on Bertelsmann's Nazi past.
About 6,000 German companies are contributing to a 5.1bn euro ($5bn) settlement with hundreds of thousands of Nazis slave labourers.
Other companies, such as Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Bank have also set up commissions into history during the Third Reich.

Growing up, I was told you can be judged by the company you keep. Well, knowing McGinniss chooses to keep company with world class liar and pervert, Jesse Griffin, as well as Barack Obama’s hand picked hatemongers, none of which having an ounce of credibility on any subject, it’s pretty safe to assume he is of the same bent.
Here’s the bottom line though, Sarah Palin is right to be concerned about Joe McGinniss living anywhere near her. This guy is not some poor innocent "journalist" just doing his job. Well, after what we’ve witnessed for the last two years, when someone attacks Sarah Palin, we all become Mama (and Papa) Grizzlies and rally around her. We simply will not let this nonsense stand.
Below is just a very small sampling of the hatred and violence that has been directed towards Sarah Palin since she has become a national figure. It’s but a very small fraction of what we have seen and heard.
Back in October of 2008, some left wing haters thought it was just great to hang Sarah in effigy, and got world wide attention. Even though the community was up in arms, the city officials claimed "free speech" and let the hate roll on.

The next big event came at Christmas time in 2008. Demented thugs, in a manner reminiscent of the way Barack Obama’s best buddy Bill Ayers used to do it, firebombed Sarah’s church in Wasilla. There were people in the building, wrapping Christmas presents, at the time.
Like Ayers, the arsonists, set off multiple bombs, also used accelerants, and blocked exits, making it hard to get out of the flaming building. One can assume their intent was murder.
This crime has never been solved, nor has it gotten much coverage after the fact. One wonders what the media coverage would have been like, had this been Obama’s church rather than Sarah’s.
Sarah and her children, get death threats all of the time, and while no one likes to talk about it, here’s one notable hatemonger that was outed. This guy, who calls himself James Brown on Twitter, is a fan of Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, naturally. Here’s just a sampling of what this guy was tweeting:
